John 7:37, ‘Now on the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’”’
Lord Jesus is eager to fill us with the Holy Spirit and it is up to us, to believe and take it and claim it. We need to open our mouth and ask Him, to fill us with the Holy Spirit and also fill our hearts with praises for Him. How thirsty we are to accept the Holy Spirit? He who believes in Him, will have ‘from his innermost being will flow rivers of living water’, as the Scriptures said. Jesus Christ, after His death and resurrection, had given us Holy Spirit. We need to open ourselves to receive the Holy Spirit.
We drink water to the level of our thirstiness. Ask God to fill us with His Holy Spirit, as we are thirsty. If we ask Him, He will pour out His Holy Spirit into each one of us; as it is required for us to live our lives in this world. Thirst and believe.
Hebrews 11:6, ‘And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.’
It is up to us to ask and seek Him to be filled with the Holy Spirit. He will reward us as we seek Him. How thirsty are we to receive the spirit of Jesus Christ into our hearts?
Ezekiel 47:1-12, ‘Then he brought me back to the door of the house; and behold, water was flowing from under the threshold of the house toward the east, for the house faced east. And the water was flowing down from under, from the right side of the house, from south of the altar. 2 He brought me out by way of the north gate and led me around on the outside to the outer gate by way of the gate that faces east. And behold, water was trickling from the south side.
3 When the man went out toward the east with a line in his hand, he measured a thousand cubits, and he led me through the water, water reaching the ankles. 4 Again he measured a thousand and led me through the water, water reaching the knees. Again he measured a thousand and led me through the water, water reaching the loins. 5 Again he measured a thousand; and it was a river that I could not ford, for the water had risen, enough water to swim in, a river that could not be forded. 6 He said to me, “Son of man, have you seen this?” Then he brought me back to the bank of the river. 7 Now when I had returned, behold, on the bank of the river there were very many trees on the one side and on the other. 8 Then he said to me, “These waters go out toward the eastern region and go down into the Arabah; then they go toward the sea, being made to flow into the sea, and the waters of the sea become fresh. 9 It will come about that every living creature which swarms in every place where the river goes, will live. And there will be very many fish, for these waters go there and the others become fresh; so everything will live where the river goes. 10 And it will come about that fishermen will stand beside it; from Engedi to Eneglaim there will be a place for the spreading of nets. Their fish will be according to their kinds, like the fish of the Great Sea, very many. 11 But its swamps and marshes will not become fresh; they will be left for salt. 12 By the river on its bank, on one side and on the other, will grow all kinds of trees for food. Their leaves will not wither and their fruit will not fail. They will bear every month because their water flows from the sanctuary, and their fruit will be for food and their leaves for healing.”
Holy Spirit is the river flowing under the threshold of the house. We see the various stages of how the Holy Spirit is working. First it was a trickle, then it came until the ankles, then until the loins, then until it cannot be forded. It became a river. It is going everywhere. Wherever the water is flowing, there will be a freshness. When the water is flowing into the sea, the waters of the sea is also becoming fresh. When there is an overflowing fullness of the Holy Spirit in us, then wherever we go, there is a freshness. As we are getting water from the sanctuary, fruit is coming out. When we are filled with the Holy Spirit from above, then we will be bearing fruit for the Lord; We will become like a fruit for the food and leaves for healing! The Holy Spirit is flowing from inside of us to outside to the others; so they can see the life of Christ in us and others will get blessed and get healed by the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ, through us. Thank God for His Word.
1 Corinthians 3:16, ‘Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?’
We are the temple of God and the Holy Spirit is dwelling in us. We need to have a constant thirst to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
Acts 2:36, ‘Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ—this Jesus whom you crucified. 37 Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brethren, what shall we do?” 38 Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
There should be a thirst in our hearts, asking the Lord, ‘Lord what should I do next?’ Because there are many areas in our lives, where we need to be filled with the Holy Spirit. When we come to the Lord and repent of our sins, we will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. When we come to Him every day, He will fill us with His Holy Spirit.
Matthew 5:3, ‘“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
We need the filling of Holy Spirit, every day. We need to have the poverty of Spirit in our hearts, when we long and thirst for it, we will get the peace, joy in our hearts through the Holy Spirit.
4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
When we ask for the Holy Spirit, He will show us the areas where we need to repent and mourn for our sins and the Holy Spirit will comfort us. When we seriously repent of our sins, it will bring mourning in our lives. When the poverty of spirit leads to the real mourning in our lives, crying out to be filled with the Holy Spirit, He will fill us and comforts us.
5 “Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.
6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.’
When we really long for righteousness, there will be a satisfaction; which leads us to yearn and long, for more of the filling of the Holy Spirit!
John 4:14, ‘but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”’
The worldly water makes us to crave for more, and it never satisfies. But when we are longing for the Holy Spirit, which is the living waters, our spirit will have, more and more fullness, which leads us to ask for more fullness and gives us more longing to be filled with His Holy Spirit, which makes the fleshly desires go down and heavenly desires go up. There should be a real longing for the filling of the Holy Spirit, where it comes from the Sanctuary, filling us up and overflowing from within us and going out from us and blessing others.
There should be a consistent longing and thirst for the Holy Spirit:
Luke 11:5, ‘Then He said to them, “Suppose one of you has a friend, and goes to him at midnight and says to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves; 6 for a friend of mine has come to me from a journey, and I have nothing to set before him’; 7 and from inside he answers and says, ‘Do not bother me; the door has already been shut and my children and I are in bed; I cannot get up and give you anything.’ 8 I tell you, even though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will get up and give him as much as he needs. 9 “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened.
We need to be persistent in our prayers for others, asking to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
11 Now suppose one of you fathers is asked by his son for a fish; he will not give him a snake instead of a fish, will he? 12 Or if he is asked for an egg, he will not give him a scorpion, will he? 13 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?”
When we ask Him, to be filled with the Holy Spirit, God our Father is so eager to give us. The attitude we need to have in our hearts is to be persistent, in asking. Do not be satisfied. We need to have the eagerness, longing and yearning in our hearts to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
Galatians 5:22, ‘But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.’
When we are filled with the Holy Spirit, we are getting the love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control; in our lives. He is working in us and changing our hearts to be able to produce this fruit in our hearts.
Ephesians 5:17, ‘So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit,’
Apostle Paul is encouraging the Ephesian Church, to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Thank God for showing us that, there need to be a consistent thirst in our hearts, to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Ask and believe and also open up our hearts and mouths, to praise Him and thank Him, for all the ways He is leading us.
Praise God.
