Being at Peace with God

In Romans 5:1 we read, “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” and in Romans 4:25, “He who was delivered over because of our transgressions, and was raised because of our justification.” Because Christ has justified us, we can have peace with God. In Isaiah 53:5 we read, “But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed.” Jesus underwent all these sufferings so that we could be at peace with God.

In Acts 10 we read of when Peter visits Cornelius’ house. Cornelius was a devout man who prayed to God continually. Cornelius saw a vision where God revealed to him that he was to send for Peter. And in another vision, God spoke to Peter. God spoke to him not to consider unholy something that God had cleansed. This helped him to go to Cornelius’ house and preach to them what God had spoken to him. Peter introduced Jesus and His life to the house of Cornelius. Peter preached the forgiveness of sin to all who believed. The gentiles also were given the chance to be part of the kingdom. In Ephesians 2:11 onward we read of how those who were excluded became part of Christ through His death. “But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall, by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace, and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by it having put to death the enmity.” (verse 13-16). When we have peace with God, we will have peace with our fellow men. We need to strive for maintaining peace. When we have repented, we will have peace with God and will no longer be strangers to God’s household. In Colossians 1:15 we read of the supremacy of Christ. “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.” In verse 18 we read, “He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything.”

In Philippians 4:6,7 we read, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Our life on this earth may not be always comfortable. We will have difficult situations, but God promises us a peace that we can have in our hearts even through it all. We can lay all anxieties on Jesus through prayer. In Romans 5:3,4 we read, “And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope” When we go through various tribulations, it is molding us to the character that God wants. This is our encouragement when we go through various challenges. In verse 8-10 we read, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.” We are continuously being saved by the life of Jesus. Through Jesus we can be reconciled to the Father and thus have peace with God. This peace with God will help us to have peace with others also.

May God bless us all!
