Let us read from John 1:5, “The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” We all know how in Genesis 1 God created light by His word and He separated the light and darkness. What God has separated, man shouldn’t try to unite. We shouldn’t have fellowship with darkness (2 Corinthians 6:14). Light and darkness can’t have any fellowship. In 1 John 1:5-7 we read, “This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.” How clearly God mentions that light and darkness can’t have fellowship. In 1 Peter 2:9 we read, “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light”. God has done an excellent work and called us from the darkness into the marvelous light.
In John 1:4 we read, “In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men”. In one of the Bible versions, the word comprehend is mentioned as ‘extinguish’. We all know how fire extinguishers can put out a fire. Darkness can’t overcome light. The light of Jesus shone in the 33-1/2 years that He was on the earth. Darkness couldn’t extinguish the light in His life. In Mathew 5-14 we read that now we are the light of the world. Darkness, sin and Satan can’t comprehend this light! We have to experience the life of Jesus in this dark and perverse generation. We have to be the light carriers for Jesus. Satan will try to bring darkness into our life in many ways. He is waiting like a roaring lion(1 Peter 5-8,9). But he can’t succeed if we have the life of Jesus within us. No weapon that is formed against us will prosper. In Colossians 2: 15 we read, “When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.” Jesus has already gotten victory on the cross. Satan has no power at all. This is God’s promise! God has already rescued us from the domain of darkness and bought us to His kingdom.
In Isaiah 60:2, 3 we read, “For behold, darkness will cover the earth and deep darkness the peoples; But the Lord will rise upon you and His glory will appear upon you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.” We all know that we are in the end times. Things are getting worse every day. We see increase of injustice, corruption and lawlessness. In the midst of all of this, we are called to be the light of the world. We need the life of Jesus to be the light. When you belong to the light, these verses tell us, that people will come to your light. People in the darkness will see your light and come to the light. There are certain insects that flee away when they are exposed to light. But certain others are attracted to the light. When we walk in light by having the life of Jesus in us, some people in darkness will see the life of Jesus and be attracted to the light. Certain others who want to remain in the darkness will flee away from the light. There may be parts of our life that are still in darkness, but even those will go away when we have the life of Jesus within us.
How can we manifest the life of Jesus through our lives? We read in 2 Corinthians 4:10 we read, “always carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.” Only by dying to ourselves daily can we manifest the life of Jesus. When we take up the cross and follow Jesus, we too can have the light. In John 8:12 Jesus said, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” In Luke 11:35 we see a great warning , “Then watch out that the light in you is not darkness.” Darkness has no power in front of light. In Ephesians 5:9 we see the fruit of light – goodness, righteousness and truth. Let us take us the cross and bear these fruits in our lives. May God help us to be the light carriers in this dark world. Let us ask God to show us any area where darkness is ruling in our lives and separate ourselves from it. Don’t give any space to Satan. May people in darkness see Christ through our lives. May God’s name be glorified.
