Come up Higher…

Let us read a verse from Psalms 34:10 “The young lions do lack and suffer hunger; But they who seek the Lord shall not be in want of any good thing.” We know about lions – they are the Kings of the Jungle. In this verse we read that they are suffering from hunger. We are the children of God and will not lack any good thing. This is the promise that the Lord gives us if we seek the Lord wholeheartedly. Let us focus on the second part of this verse. Do we lack any good things in our life or are we satisfied with the spiritual condition that we have? If we examine our lives properly, we can see that we lack many good things. If we are satisfied and content with our condition, then God can’t do anything for us. In Rev 3:17 we read, “Because you say, “I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing,” and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked.” This is the condition of people who are satisfied with their Christian life and have no desire for a higher life.

In the Old Testament people sought the Lord only for earthly needs and blessings. And the Lord delivered and blessed them. But our Lord desires us to seek Him for heavenly blessings. Let us put this Old Testament promise into the new covenant perspective of Mathew 6:33. This is the new covenant promise. We have to seek the kingdom of God first and then all that we need will be added to us. If we first seek for earthly blessings, we are still living in the old covenant life.  1 Chronicles 22:19 “Now set your heart and your soul to seek the Lord your God; arise, therefore, and build the sanctuary of the Lord God, so that you may bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord and the holy vessels of God into the house that is to be built for the name of the Lord.” The Lord speaks to us today to set our heart and soul to seek the Lord earnestly. In Colossians 3:1-2 we are instructed to set our minds on things above. In Psalms 105:3-4, the Lords instructs us to seek the Lord and His strength. In Ephesians 1:3 we read that the Lord has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in the heavenly places. The Lord wants us to never lack these blessings in our life. This is God’s will for us.

In our life we may lack the power of the Holy Spirit and we may lack the virtues of Christ. But if we wholeheartedly seek the Lord, these good things will not be lacking in our lives. Revelations 4:1 encourages John to come up to a higher ground. God also wants to lead us to a higher ground to show us many new truths. In Ezekiel 47:3-5 we read, “When the man went out toward the east with a line in his hand, he measured a thousand cubits, and he led me through the water, water reaching the ankles.  Again he measured a thousand and led me through the water, water reaching the knees. Again he measured a thousand and led me through the water, water reaching the loins. Again he measured a thousand; and it was a river that I could not ford, for the water had risen, enough water to swim in, a river that could not be forded.” These are different levels of the Christian life. Are we just satisfied with ankle level water or do we want the experience of swimming in the water? Whatever level you are in, seek for the higher level of Christian life. Our Lord is the rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6)

Let us be encouraged with these words to diligently seek the Lord for a higher level of spiritual life. May God bless us all.
