A Greater Love towards the Lord

Let us read a verse from Luke 7:47, “For this reason I say to you, her sins, which are many, have been forgiven, for she loved much; but he who is forgiven little, loves little.” Let us go through this passage from verse 41 to 47. Through this passage God wants to ask us also, “How is your love towards your savior?”. We all love our Lord, but how much do we love Him? He has forgiven our many sins, and for this reason we should love Him more. Do you have a greater love towards the Lord? We should be aware of how much the Lord has forgiven us. We shouldn’t forget the purification of the sins we have received. In 2 Peter 1:9 we read, “For he who lacks these qualities are blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins.”

None of us are worthy to be God’s sons but we are saved by grace. God took away all our sins and made us His child. We should be aware of the great love God has shown us through giving us salvation. We should experience this great love! In 2 Corinthians 5:21 we read how Jesus became sin on our behalf to make us righteous. God has clothed us with His cloth of righteousness. We are still living only by His grace. In Zachariah 3:3,4 we read, “Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments and standing before the angel.  He spoke and said to those who were standing before him, saying, “Remove the filthy garments from him.” Again he said to him, “See, I have taken your iniquity away from you and will clothe you with festal robes.” We have also been clothed by God’s righteousness. In John 3:16 we read of God’s great love for us! In John 17 we read that the Father loves us as He loves Jesus.

In the passage that we read in the beginning, we see 2 debtors. One represents Simon, and the other is the woman. We see in this chapter that Simon looked upon the woman as though she was a sinner. He focused on the sins of this woman and wasn’t aware of his own sins. This can happen in our lives too. We need to be always careful that we are not ignorant of our sins. In this whole passage we see that the woman is completely silent. The woman’s love for Jesus was not expressed through words, but through her actions. We should love our Lord and our brothers not though words but through our deeds. We read this in 1 John 3-18. And we see that Jesus made note of all the things that the woman did in love for Jesus.

In Matthew 22:37,38 we read, “And He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the great and foremost commandment.” This is the love that God wants from us. In John 21 we read how Jesus asks Simon Peter 3 times “Do you love me more than these?” This is the same question Jesus asks us, “Do you love me more than anything else?” If you want to tend the sheep and feed the lambs you need to have that greater love towards the Lord.

There once were many slaves who were ready to be sold to different masters at an auction. As the bidding began and the price for the slaves rose, the slaves were scared thinking of the strictness of their to be masters and the work they would have to do. One of the slaves was bought at a very high price and taken to the master’s house. When the slave reached the master’s house, the master told the slave, “I bought you with a huge price. But from now on you are free to go anywhere.” The slave was surprised to hear this from the master and he started on his way. As he was going, the slave thought to himself, “No, I don’t want to go. Nowhere else will I get a more secure place than at this master’s house.” So he got up and went back to the master and told him, “I will remain your slave. I don’t want to go anywhere else. I will be with you always.” This is what the Lord did for us. The question is not if we love God, but how much great is our love for the Lord!

Let us realize the great love of our Lord. Let us remember the forgiveness and salvation we have received. Only that Holy Spirit can reveal to us this great love that the Lord has for us. With poorness in spirit let us long for this. God will see our thirst and satisfy our hearts. Let our hearts be filled with God’s love!

May God bless us all!
