John 14:21 “He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.”
Every one claims that they love Jesus. But Jesus makes it very clear that the proof of loving Him is keeping His commandments. We can know the commandments of Jesus only through the word of God. So we should learn the word of God seriously to have His commandments and then obey those commandments out of love. Jesus assures us here that if we love Him, He and the Father will love us and discloses Himself to us. So if we keep His commandments out of love then we know that God loves us.
Most of the believers are looking only for the promises of God without any obedience to His commandments. This is a great deception. God loves the one who keeps His commandments.
Luke 12:42 And the Lord said, “Who then is the faithful and sensible steward, whom his master will put in charge of his servants, to give them their rations at the proper time?
Jesus was telling this parable in connection with His second coming. Jesus said “For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah” (Math. 24:37). Noah was a faithful and sensible steward. When he got the commandment from God to build the ark and revelation about the things going to come he obeyed it perfectly. He preached righteousness to everyone till the end even though all of them ridiculed him. But he could save his family completely from the evil world around him. Noah trained his children to build the ark and all of them were part of his entire God given ministry.
We are definitely living in the last days. Everything we see and hear gives ONLY one message – “Coming of the Lord is very near”. Are we like the faithful and sensible steward? – Are we in readiness and keep the lamps lit to receive the master? (Luke 12:35).
A burning lamp shows a good conscience. When we obey God’s commandments out of love we are keeping our conscience clear and thus keeping our lamp burning to receive our master.
Luke 12:48 but the one who did not know it, and committed deeds worthy of a flogging, will receive but few. From everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more.
When we receive the commandments of God we have the responsibility to obey them and we are answerable to that. Any disobedience to God has to generate a healthy fear in us and quickly lead us to keep a good conscience through repentance and faith in Lord Jesus.
Hebrews 9:9 which is a symbol for the present time. Accordingly both gifts and sacrifices are offered which cannot make the worshiper perfect in conscience,
Under the Old Covenant no one can have a perfect conscience. All old covenant sacrifice can only bring external cleansing. They are unable to do anything with the conscience of the worshiper. Many of the believers are looking for the perfect music for worshiping God. God is looking on the conscience of the believer. Without a clear conscience no one can come to God.
Hebrew 9:13-14 For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled sanctify for the cleansing of the flesh, how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
Many believers looked to Jesus with admiration by seeing the miracles He did in the last 3.5 years on the earth. But greatest and real miracle is that Jesus, a man like us lived for 33.5 years on this earth without a sin by the power of Holy Spirit. Secret of His life is given in Heb 5: 7 “In the days of His flesh, He offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His piety”.
When we obey God’s commandments out of love we are keeping our conscience clear and thus keeping our lamp burning to receive our master.
Under the New Covenant, blood of Lord Jesus Christ cleanses our conscience from all dead works to serve the living God. So the condition to serve the living God is a clear conscience. We can have that with the blood of Jesus Christ.
Acts 24:15-16 having a hope in God, which these men cherish themselves, that there shall certainly be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked. “In view of this, I also do my best to maintain always a blameless conscience both before God and before men.”
Here Apostle Paul is saying that he is sure about the resurrection of both the righteous and wicked. “In view of this, I also do my best to maintain always a blameless conscience both before God and before men”. If we want to have a part in the resurrection of righteous then we have to keep clear conscience with God and men all the time.
Mathew 6:14-15 “For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. “But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.”
If you are keeping a grudge against anyone then your conscience will not be clear and you will go to hell. If you have an unforgiving attitude or spirit then also your conscience will not be clear and you will go to hell having a part in the resurrection of the wicked.
So like Apostle Paul, let us do the best to maintain always a blameless conscience both before God and men.
May God help all of us to keep a good conscience all the time.
