Psalms 68: 19-20 Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears our burden, The God who is our salvation. Selah. God is to us a God of deliverances; And to GOD the Lord belong escapes from death.
This is the testimony of David and he glorifies God by seeing what he has experienced in his life. David had a long list of burdens from his father, brothers, King Saul, his own son, his servants etc, but David experienced that His God bore all that burdens every day. The burdens were so numerous and frequent that David experienced God bearing his burden ‘daily’. God bore David’s burdens daily and moreover, God become a God of salvation for him. If there is any burden that remains in our life and we don’t experience enough grace of God, then that burden will turn to a sin. A sin that continues to remain in anyone’s life without repentance and faith in Lord Jesus Christ will bring spiritual death. But in David’s life, since he had God to bear his burdens, he experienced the salvation and deliverance from death.
Denying the self and accepting and carrying out the will of God is the most difficult thing for any human being.
We see that Jesus also experienced this deliverance from God while He was on the earth as human being (Heb. 5:7)
Jesus told his disciples in Luke 9:23 “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me”. There is no other way for a disciple but to obey this commandment on daily basis. But denying the self and accepting and carrying out the will of God is the most difficult thing for any human being. Jesus himself talks of this as a cross. No one will be able to fulfill this commandment without God. Trying to deny ourselves on our own is indeed a heavy burden.
Jesus knows us very well and so he said in Mathew 11: 28-30 “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. “For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.“
If we are burdened by the commandments of God to walk in the path of discipleship, we have Jesus’ invitation and promise to provide rest. The conditions for this promise is that we should be weary and heavy laden and then come to Jesus. This is really good news for those who are weary and heavy laden and are desperately looking for someone to bear their burdens. Jesus also invites us to come to Him; take His yoke; and learn from Him. By doing so, our souls will find rest. We have the example of Jesus who lived as a complete man on this earth for 33 ½ years obeying the commandments of His Father completely and perfectly. Jesus not only obeyed His father joyfully but it was His life’s only purpose (John 6:38). Jesus asks us to learn from him and learning from Jesus is not a difficult process because He is gentle and humble in heart. When we take His yoke and learn from Him, we will experience that His yoke is easy and His burden is light because Jesus himself carries it all for us.
As we are approach the end of the year 2014, let us come to Jesus to experience His wonderful promise in all the coming days. If David, who lived under the Old Covenant, could experience the God of Salvation and God of deliverance every day in his life, how much more we can experience it in this Grace age with Lord Jesus and Holy Spirit?
May God bless all of us.
